Soo Soft Creations Authentic Alaskan Native Items made with Alaskan Sea Otter Sitka, Alaska |
| Welcome! I am glad you have discovered our website. My Name is Lillian Feldpausch and I am a Tlingit, Alaska Native Silver Hand Artist, my permit #2273. My main medium is working with Sea Otter Fur. We are located in Sitka, Alaska. Originally from Kake, Alaska where I first started working with Sea Otter while taking a class locally taught by John Boone. Originally learning how to make Teddy Bears through the class, I ventured on learning and creating patterns on the many items I now produce. I first started as a hobby and eventually started my own small business. However, earlier this year I have decided to not continue on with my business, I would still like to educate you about Sea Otter. I was one of 35 applicants accepted to participate at the National Museum of the American Indian ~ Smithsonian Holiday Art Market in New York on December 8th and 9th, 2007. My youngest son Seth traveled with me on our great New York City Adventure, was awesome. We met many people and shared with many about our work, our Community of Sitka and our great state of Alaska. While living a short time here in Sitka I have worked with the local Sitka Tribe Of Alaska in teaching others how to create Sea Bears and taught a the Northwest Coast Fur/ Skin Sewing Class with the University of Alaska- Sitka Campus in September 2007 and will be teaching again in February. All my items are handcrafted and each is unique, like a snow flake each are different and unique. I have to let you know that no matter how good a picture is taken it still doesn't do any justice, Sea Otter fur is the most elegant fur that one can touch or own. The name of our business says it all "Soo Soft" is the most comments that I get on all my creations. Ours is a family business, our two sons Jonathan and Seth are my Hunters. As Alaska Natives who live on the coast are able to harvest and utilize only what we need . My skins are sent to the local tannery where my husband Jeff is the Facility Manager. The tanning that the Sitka Tribal Tannery produces gives my products a very luxurious shine and is washable. (For washing, you can use Woolite and let air dry. Too fluff please put in dryer and use AIR DRY ONLY- NO HEAT!) Our daughter Morgan is also included as our model. Thank you for visiting our site and enjoy! |
